Volunteer Alano Club Governance and Nominating Committee

Governance and Nominating Committee

The Governance Committee is the primary resource for all governance issues. It is tasked with evaluating the Board of Directors and Committees, scouting additional talent for director positions, and amending and enforcing the Corporation’s articles and bylaws.

The Governance Committee is also tasked with overseeing that the Corporation remains in compliance with non-profit status requirements.

The Committee also has enforcement authority over other Committees that are not in compliance with the Corporation’s Bylaws or Committee Charters. This authority extends to amending Committee Charters that fail to align with the Corporation’s objectives.

The Nominating Committee is one subcommittee of the Governance Committee that recruits potential board members at the request of the Governance Committee. The Nominating Committee may also be tasked with scouting for certain needs of other committees if the chairperson of another committee requests.

The Governance Committee meets at least monthly and, through its chairperson, reports to the Board monthly on the above issues.

Alano Volunteer Membership Committee

Membership Engagement Committee

The Membership Engagement Committee works on the front lines, developing and sustaining a culture that communicates the importance of being a member. Rather than focusing on how becoming a member serves the individual, this Committee educates and reinforces the message that the primary purpose of being a member of this Club is to strengthen our family, which sets this Club apart from other 12-step meeting places; the Alano Club of Kent County is a network of people with a common goal, not just a wonderful building.

The Committee strives to improve all aspects of the membership experience, which may include traveling to meetings at other meeting locations and Alano Clubs in other counties to report back on what is making those places successful, and how we could integrate some of that success here.

The Membership Engagement Committee is also charged with assessing membership rights and benefits, accounting of membership lists, and pricing of membership dues.

Fundraising Committee

The Fundraising Committee is responsible for supporting the Alano Club of Kent County in achieving its goal of becoming a sustained, financially self-supporting non-profit organization. To this end, the Fundraising Committee focuses its efforts on providing strategic initiatives and opportunities to develop financial support—in the form of grants, donor cultivation, endowment expansion, and event-related sponsorship. Working in collaboration with the Director of Strategic Initiatives (and in consultation with the Board of Directors), the committee will develop and execute a multi-stage funding plan that draws on the sources of support mentioned above. Committee members will help enact this plan through various avenues: grant writing, identifying potential donors (and philanthropic organizations), and soliciting corporate sponsorships. Drawing upon their unique skill set, members will select areas of concentration in which they will invest their time as a volunteer on this committee. The Fundraising Committee will serve as a valuable tool for the Alano Club toward reaching its goal of a financially, self-sustaining club.

This committee meets monthly and is made up of a chair and one to two other board members as well as several club and community members.
